In Costa Rica, CIET helped develop an innovative prototype of the sentinel community model for active monitoring of child rights where children participated in the interpretation of their own rights. A pilot community-based social audit of child rights was conducted in the district (cantón) of Puriscal in 1997.
Child rights are at issue when the subject is child labour as in Mexico, sexual violence as in South Africa, education for girls as in Pakistan and environmental justice in the United States.
